LAHORE: A man arrested by Muslim Town police in connection with a cheque dishonouring case died mysteriously at the police station on Friday.

Police immediately shifted the body from a hospital to morgue for autopsy while the city police chief ordered an inquiry into the death.

A police team took Rana Ashraf of Gulshan-i- Ravi into custody in the morning and brought him to the police station where he suffered pain in chest. He was shifted to hospital by Rescue 1122 ambulance where he died.

Police claimed Ashraf was nominated in a case by one Zafar Iqbal for he had borrowed Rs50,000 from him. The deceased, father of three, was also nominated in three other cases of cheque dishonouring and fraud.

succumbs to injuries: A 35-year-old woman, who had sustained critical injuries during an attempted suicide at LDA flats at Kothay Pind on Oct 20, died at Jinnah Hospital here on Friday.

The Faisal Town police said Abida Perveen, who first threw her one-month-old son Saddam from a third storey building and then jumped along with her three-year-old daughter Umme Farwah after quarrelling with her husband Muhammad Islam, had gone unconscious. Her son had died instantly.

Police said the woman’s body was shifted for an autopsy.

ROBBERIES: Three robbers barged into the house of Abdul Munim in A-Block DHA in Defence A police area and took away cash, jewellery, car and other valuables all worth Rs1.4m.

Four robbers stormed into the house of Samia Batool in Hussain Town in the Sabzazar police limits and escaped after looting cash and valuables all worth Rs900,000.

Two robbers broke into the house of Dr Taskeen in Main Bazaar Ahmad Town in Baghbanpura police limits and took away cash and valuables all worth Rs130,000.

Thieves lifted the car of Umer Hayat from outside the Saira Memorial Hospital in Model Town Extension in Faisal Town police limits.

Two robbers stopped Imran Anwar in Hanif Park in the Badami Bagh police jurisdiction and deprived him of Rs22,600. The suspect suffered a gunshot wound when Anwar offered resistance during snatching.
