LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday ordered the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to submit report of an inquiry held against Punjab University (PU) officials for issuing a fake graduation degree to Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by Prof Dr Zahid Mahmood of the PU. He alleged that Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran had used his influence and got the inquiry shelved.

ACE Deputy Director Obaidullah told the court the inquiry had been completed and the report submitted to the chief minister.

The judge directed the officer to submit the inquiry report to the court on Nov 6.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday acquitted a murder suspect after the prosecution failed to establish its case.

Suspect Muhammad Jahangir had been accused of killing a woman on May 21, 2001, in Nishtar Colony.

The suspect pleaded that police had implicated him in the case with a mala fide intention and could not produce any tangible evidence. The judge allowed the appeal and acquitted the suspect.
