SANGHAR: Two policemen lost their lives and two others sustained bullet wounds during an encounter with dacoits hiding in the wild near Shahdadpur on Thursday.

Two dacoits, one of them carrying a head-money of Rs5 million, were killed in the encounter.

Tando Adam DSP Ayoub Brohi told Dawn that a police team cordoned off Doran Brohi village after receiving a tip-off about the presence of a dacoit, Hyder Brohi, carrying Rs5 million head-money, and his other gang members in the area.

During the siege, he added, the gang opened fire on the police which triggered a fierce clash.

The DSP said that Hyder Brohi and one of his accomplices, Idrees Brohi, were killed during the encounter, which claimed the lives of constables Razzaque Ansari and Mithal Bhatti. Two other constables, Ahmed Khan Rind and Iqbal Hingoro, also received bullet wounds, he said.

The deceased victims were taken to the Shahdadpur Institute of Medical Health for a post-mortem examination.

The bodies of the dacoits were taken away by their heirs, the DSP said.

He said there were more than 30 cases of heinous crimes registered against Brohi at various police stations of Sindh.
