KASUR: A couple was shot dead on Tuesday in the name of honour during a jury (panchayat) at Kharak Singh village in Phoolnagar city police precincts.

According to police, a girl, Lubna, allegedly eloped with Sharafat of the same village some weeks back. The girl’s family demanded that the parents of Sharafat should hand her over to them or be prepared for the dire consequences.

On intervention of village elders, Sharafat’s family agreed to return the girl to her parents at a panchayat.

On Tuesday, while the panchyat was in progress, some unidentified men arrived there, bundled the couple in a car and fled away.

Later, the bullet-riddled bodies of both Lubna and Sharafat were found in fields outside the village.

The police have started investigations.
