Democracy within PTI

Published October 21, 2014

REFERENCE Afshan Saeed’s letter ‘Democracy within PTI’ (Oct 13). The writer has supported the endevours of Imran Khan to bring real democracy in Pakistan but at the same time she sees lack of democracy in the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf itself.

In the political history of Pakistan, Mr Khan is the only leader who has effectively highlighted quite a few things which no political leader had ever done before. For instance, it was Mr Khan who raised the issue of rampant corruption being committed by successive governments of Pakistan.

Similarly, neither the leadership of the PPP nor that of the PML-N has held elections in their parties. On the other hand, Mr Khan took the lead when he held party elections in 2012. So, the writer is not justified in her criticism that Mr Khan should first have democracy in his own party.
