ISLAMABAD: Nasser N.S. Jaffer has been appointed as chairman of the Pakistan International Airlines, says an official statement issued on Saturday. He will replace acting chairman Mohammad Ali Gardezi.

Mr Jaffer is chairman of Jaffer Brothers, a business group that deals in chemicals, machinery and fertilisers.

Educated at St. Patrick’s, Karachi, and California University, Mr Jaffer is a non-executive director of Shell Pakistan and a member of the advisory committee of HSBC bank as well as a member of the PIAC’s board.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Friday, Mr Jaffer will serve as chairman of PIA till further orders.

PIA has been facing serious challenges for years. A number of its aeroplanes have been grounded and delay in arrival and departure of flights has become a routine.
