Coke Studio Season Seven on Saturday released four songs from its fifth episode on its social media accounts and website before taking a break in respect of Muharram. Coke Studio will recommence from Sunday, November 16, 2014.

While Jimmy Khan, Abbas Ali Khan and Niazi Brothers made a comeback, episode five welcomed popular singer Jawad Ahmed to the Coke Studio family.

Mujhe Baar Baar:

With soulful music and profound lyrics, Abbas Ali Khan sang Mujhe Baar Baar from his 2014 album Tamam Alam Mast. With guest musician Shallum Xavier on guitar, the infusion of various musical notes gave the song an ecstatic aura.

Pehla Pyar:

In episode five Jimmy Khan recreated Pehla Pyar, the first ever song written by him in Urdu. With Omran Shafique on guitar and Sajid Ali on flute, the song echoed the idyllic love of adolescence.

Mitti da Pehlwan:

With deep reflective lyrics, Mitti da Pehlwan by Jawad Ahmad had the buoyancy of a typical Punjabi folk song. Guest musicians Jaffer Hussain on clarinet and Omran Shafique on guitar added the element of funk and pop in the melody.

Khairiyan de Naal:

While the three songs had an air of cheeriness, Khairiyan de Naal by Riaz Brothers was soothingly poignant. Narrating the woeful lore of Heer from Heer Ranjha, the song succeeded in achieving a heartrending effect on listeners. The resonance of the fateful lovers’ story was given by guest musician, Sajid Ali on flute.
