ISLAMABAD: Some 5,297 cases of human rights violations were registered in the country in 2013, says a report submitted by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights to the National Assembly.
According to the report prepared by the ministry’s Human Rights Wing and its regional offices, 1,091 cases of human rights violation were reported in Balochistan, 1,625 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,908 in Sindh, 524 in Punjab and 149 in Islamabad.
Twenty-six acid attack cases were registered, including nine in KP, four in Sindh and 13 in Punjab. Twenty-two burn cases were reported — 13 in Sindh and nine in Punjab.
In all 286 cases of domestic violence, including 239 in KP, 45 in Sindh and two in Islamabad, were registered.
A total of 418 cases of honour killings were registered during the period – 19 in Balochistan, 41 in KP, 315 in Sindh, 40 in Punjab and three in Islamabad.
Likewise, 870 cases of kidnapping were reported; one in Islamabad, 59 in Punjab, 363 in Sindh, 311 in KP and 136 in Balochistan.
No case involving a member of the minorities was reported from any part of the country.
Ninety-four cases of missing people were reported in the year under review — of them seven in Islamabad, one in Punjab, 72 in KP and 14 in Balochistan.
Eighty-three cases of police-related issues were reported last year, 29 each in Islamabad and Punjab, and 25 in Sindh.
Nine cases of prison-related issues were registered — one in Islamabad, three in Punjab and five in Sindh.
In all 129 cases of rape/gang-rape were reported, three in Islamabad, 72 in Punjab, 48 in Sindh and six in KP.
A total of 2,211 cases of sectarian violence were registered, including 824 in Balochistan, 436 in KP, 932 in Sindh and 19 in Punjab. No case was reported in Islamabad. Twenty-one cases of attack on religious places were registered in Punjab.
