Indian border aggression may be due to political influence, says DG Rangers Punjab

LAHORE: Director General (DG) Rangers Punjab Major General Tahir Javaid Khan on Friday said Indian aggression along the border could be due to political influence, saying that such clashes could not have a military agenda, DawnNews reported.

DG Rangers was briefing media personnel regarding Indian firing and shelling along the Sialkot working boundary.

He said that Indian firing along the working boundary has been ongoing for two years, adding that unarmed Pakistani civilians were being targeted.

DG Rangers also provided a breakdown of the firearms used in the ceasefire violations, stating that 31,868 mortar rounds have been used in the stipulated time period.

He moreover added that 438,361 small and big weapons have been used against Pakistan. The DG Rangers claimed that such a large quantity of weapons and mortal shells had not even been used in a full-scale war.

Khan rejected allegations levelled by India regarding infiltration of militants in its territory due to assistance from Pakistan and said that it should investigate those locations from where this purported infiltration originated.

Pakistan calls upon India to allow UN observer to visit LoC

Pakistan has called upon India to allow the UN military observer group to visit the Line of Control (LoC) to investigate recent ceasefire violations, said a report published on Radio Pakistan.

During a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson, Tasneem Aslam said that Pakistan took the UN observers to its side of the LoC and working boundary few days ago to show them the damage and pattern of fire carried out by the Indian side.

The observers, she said, would have compiled a report and sent it to the UN as per the practice.

She said the UNMOGIP is a neutral observer and the best option for India is to allow the observers to visit its part of the LoC to assess the situation, adding that its investigation and recommendations should be acceptable to India.

Point is not who got how much damage... point is who has started it 1st???? Indian never attacked any country at its 1st as the history prevails the truth....

India always start first then act like a innocent baby, we just retaliate, we never say or do any harm to any country, befooling their own people. Like news in TOI, India is attacking soldiers and Pakistan is attacking our civilians. We speak truth civilians are suffering on both sides so it must be stopped instead debating who started first.

India will never allow UN observers anywhere close to their side of the LoC. Pakistan will and always called for UN observers to investigate any border incursions or accusations from Indian side. Even when two Indian soldiers were beheaded Pakistan called for UN to investigate the claim. India always refused and will continue to refuse to have UN get involved because then the truth will come out. Once the truth is out then India cannot hide behind it's propaganda. Simple facts.

@Marina Don't forget India gave you Pakistan two times. Once in 1947 and another time after 1965 war when our forces reached up to Karachi. We can reach there again even if you throw missiles on us. We even won't need to throw missile. We have things to loose but don't use it as a threat. We can earn it again if we loose it and India has proven it before. We won't spare terrorists country.

Both countries can ill-afford any war and have lot of issues to tackle domestically than this show of power. Army on Pakistani side and Politicians on Indian side need to behave responsibly. No citizen from both country want a war with each other, may the peace prevail on sub-continent.

This must rank as the most amusing articles I have ever read on Dawn.com. The DG Rangers Punjab alleges that the “border aggression” is due to political influence. Is he talking about PM Modi? It is just the opposite, it is Nawaz Sharif that has his chair on fire and desperately needs to shore up his position. Mr Modi has won the elections with a resounding majority. He does not need to prove anything. The border flare-up is a national issue, not a Congress-BJP issue, the nation stand united as one against a common enemy, Mr Modi does not need to score Brownie points against his domestic political rivals by starting a war with a neighboring country to whom he extended a hand of friendship from the very day he assumed office. It has been the policy of every successive Pakistani govt to initiate conflicts and then cry wolf. Isn’t it amusing then, that you try every trick in the book to attract world attention and portray India as the aggressor but continue to shoot yourselves in the foot.

after reading the comments i feel that indians are complexed that they are a 1st world country and Pakistan is a 4th Class nation. Sorry but isnt true FYI, I think Pakistanis standard of living is much better than Indians. We are a 3rd world country and have our share of problems. Yes india progressed little more in the last decade when we very busy tackling the terrorists but its already changing.
