QUETTA: Police busted a gang of criminals involved in incidents of kidnapping for ransom in the city and freed an abducted child.

“Police raided a house in Hazar Ganji area on Thursday night and recovered five-year-old Akram, who was abducted 14 days ago,” said Capital City Police Officer Abdu Razzaq Cheema.

He said kidnappers had demanded of Akram’s parents to pay Rs5 million for his release.

The CCPO said that the CIA acting on a clue raided the house in Hazar Ganji and captured two suspected kidnappers Naimatullah and Mohammad Gul Populzai besides freeing the boy.

Search for accomplices of the detained suspects was under way, he added.

The CCPO said 19 incidents of kidnapping for ransom had been reported in the city since January. Fourteen abducted persons were freed and 37 accused arrested, he added.

He said a `District Information Body’ had been set up to collect information about criminals and for timely action.
