ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to hold intra-party elections at district and divisional levels in all provinces.

“Intra-party elections were already due and it was the demand of the party workers,” PPP spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar told Dawn on Tuesday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be first province where the party will organise it elections.

For this purpose a three-member committee has been constituted by PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari to work out a plan of action for holding intra-party polls in the province.

The members of the committee as notified by the party are Senator Farhatullah Babar, former federal minister Prof N.D. Khan and a member of the party’s central executive committee, Aurangzeb S. Burki.

The committee has been tasked to give its report on preparation and holding of intra-party elections within three weeks.

The terms of reference of the committee as notified by the party are: To work out a plan of action for holding free, fair and transparent intra-party elections to all tiers of party offices at district and divisional levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a specified time frame.

The committee will visit the province and hold meetings with various party organisations for broad based consultations. It will plan its own schedule of visits and meetings in association with the provincial party leadership and others concerned. The committee is required to submit its recommendations within 21 days of its first formal meeting.
