BAHAWALPUR: Doctors of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) and the members of district bar association, who were at loggerheads over the alleged torture of a medic by a lawyer, resumed their protests on Monday.

Doctors observed a token strike in the emergency ward and OPD of the BVH and staged a rally to press for the acceptance of their demand to arrest the lawyer against whom the police had registered a case on the complaint of Dr Nawab.

Both Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Young Doctors Association (YDA) leaders came to the support of their colleague and demanded arrest of lawyer Rao Nasir and cancellation of his practicing licence. On the other hand, lawyers resumed their sit-in to protest against the implication of Rao Nasir in a criminal case.

BVH acting Medical Superintendent Rao Javed Akhtar told Dawn a six-member committee (three each from doctors and lawyers) had been constituted to resolve the matter.
