KARACHI: Asim Hussain carved out a straight victory over Ahmed Pesnani to win the men’s singles title in the Young Stars Inter-firms table tennis tournament which concluded at the Sindh Sports Board sports complex on Friday.

Asim, who is ranked among top 10 players of the city, disposed off his opponent 11-8, 11-9, 11-7 to win the honours.

Earlier, Asim and Ahmed set a date by overcoming their opponents 3-1 respectively. The former gets the better of Raheel Qureshi 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 13-11 while the latter was home 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-2 over A. H. Bhatti.

Meanwhile, Raheel Qureshi and Saleem Ahmed clinched a double crown by winning men’s team event and men’s doubles.

Playing for the KMC, the pair together with Khawar Mhmood, handed a 3-1 defeat to Habib Metro Bank to annex the team title.

It is pertinent to mention that Raheel and Saleem duo had claimed the doubles title defeating the PPL pair straight in the final the other day.

Pakistan Table Tennis Federation president, S M Sibtain, who graced the closing ceremony, awarded the cash prizes and trophies to the men’s singles and doubles winners and runners-up. Raziq H. Rabbani, Consultant Sports, gave away the prizes to the team event winners and runners-up.

Final: KMC bt Habib Metro Bank 3-1 (Khawar Mehmood bt Ahmed 11-9, 11-8, 11-8, Raheel Qureshi lost to Muzammil 7-11, 11-9, 11-13, 8-11,

Saleem Ahmed bt Asad 11-5, 11-9, 11-8, Khawar Mehmood bt Muzammil 11-9, 11-8, 11-6).

Men’s singles:

Semi-finals: Ahmed Pesnani (HMB) bt A. H. Bhatti (PSO) 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-2; Asim Hussain (GSK) bt Raheel Qureshi (KMC) 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 13-11.

Final: Asim Hussain (GSK) bt Ahmed Pesnani (HMB) 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.
