Sahir to lead rugby team in Asiad

LAHORE: Pakistan rugby team was named here for the Asian Games sevens rugby event by selection committee of PRU comprising Rizwan Malik and Arif Saeed.

Sahir Riaz, an experienced player will captain the 15-member squad which comprises 12 players and 3 officials. Pakistan rugby team leaves for Incheon on Sept 28 and return on Oct 4.

Pakistan squad for Asiad include Umar Islam Butt, Ahmad Waseem, Ayoob Zafar, Daud Gill, Nasir Mehmood, Muhammad Basit, Khalid Mehmood, Mohammad Tahir Rafi, Tahir Yaqoob, M.Javed and Mian Hamza. Officials Rizwan Malik (coach), Haji Anwar (manager) and Dr Mohammad Hashim (physio) will also accompany the squad.

With India opting out of the rugby event at the last moment, Pakistan is now paced in Pool ‘B’ alongside Hong Kong, China and Philippines.
