MUZAFFARABAD: A newly-wed bride, belonging to Bagh district, succumbed to her wounds in a Rawalpindi hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, police said.

The 22-year-old woman, who married her cousin on September 8 in Kal Pajjay village on the outskirts of Dhirkot sub-division, set herself ablaze on Friday afternoon for unknown reasons.

An official at Dhirkot police station told Dawn that they had registered an FIR about, what appeared as, a suicide case.

“The victim’s father told us that when he returned from Friday prayers, he learnt that his daughter had locked herself in a room and set herself on fire,” the official said.

The victim’s relatives broke open the door of her room and rushed her to Rawalpindi, but she couldn’t survive, added the police official.

There are rumours that the woman was unhappy with her marriage, but the police official said that they could not verify any such speculations until they investigated the concerned people.
