ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation witnessed a slight decline of 0.28 per cent for the week ending on Aug 28 as compared to the previous week.

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the combined group witnessed an increase of 6.47pc.

For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI witnessed a decline of 0.12pc over the previous week, while inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was down by 0.34pc, suggested data issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statis­tics (PBS) here on Friday.

The weekly inflation witnessed decline in the past four consecutive weeks. SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets. The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variation during the week under review.

As per statistics, food items which registered increase in their prices are tomatoes 13.93pc; sugar 1.28pc; curd 1.03pc; wheat flour 0.91pc; gur 0.72pc; red chilly powder 0.59pc; beef with bone 0.39pc; wheat 0.39pc; moong washed, 0.26pc; rice irri-6 0.24pc; garlic 0.23pc; and egg 0.10pc.

The non-food items, which witnessed increase included LPG 11kg cylinder 0.18pc and washing soap 0.58pc.
