NAB arrests Kurram official

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has arrested Maqsood Hassan, assistant political agent of upper Kurram Agency, on the charges of accumulating assets beyond known sources of his income.

According to a NAB statement issued here on Thursday, a complaint was received by NAB that Mr Hassan, then assistant political agent Mohmand, had accumulated huge assets, including one house, several plots in Hayatabad and heavy investments in national saving schemes besides a number of vehicles kept by him and his family members.

The NAB took cognizance of the case. During inquiry, it was revealed that the accusations contained in the complaint were true. Therefore, it arrested the suspect for further investigation.

It said that the suspect would be produced before the accountability court by NAB for obtaining his physical remand.

Meanwhile, the NAB, KP, arrested another suspect Rana Babar Shaukat in embezzlement of funds by officials/officer of the Pak PWD, Batkhela.

The accused was DAO of Pak PWD office in Batkhela, Malakand Agency, from October 2009 to July 2011. During his tenure in the said office he had allegedly made payments of millions of rupees to contractors for ghost, substandard and incomplete schemes.

In the said case, NAB has already arrested four officials of Pak PWD, Batkhela, and investigations are in progress.
