LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Punjab’s president Abdul Qayyum Khan filed a petition on Thursday in Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking dissolution of national and provincial assemblies, DawnNews reported.

According to the petitioner the assembly members do not meet the criteria of article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

The petitioner accused the assembly members of receiving commission from the people of their locality for development projects in the area.

Moreover, he said that since the last year’s elections were rigged the present assembly members have no legal basis to retain their position.

PAT chief Tahirul Qadri will make his "final" address to the sit-in at 4pm today.

Previously Nawaz had rejected the calls for resignation and had refused to be “blackmailed” by someone bringing 10,000-15,000 people outside the Parliament House.

However, in a bid to muster political capital against the 10-day-long protests, the government team had earlier proposed to form a judicial commission comprising of SC judges to probe into allegations of rigging which were rejected by PAT.

PTI and PAT have staged sit-ins in Islamabad’s Red Zone area since August 14, demanding Nawaz Sharif to resign and to dissolve the National Assembly considering last year’s elections were rigged.
