KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded on Friday three suspects, including two police officials, in police custody in a kidnapping case.

The police produced assistant sub-inspector of the anti-car lifting cell Mustafa Lasi, head constable Ghulam Abbas and Zubair before a judicial magistrate (south) for allegedly kidnapping a priest within the jurisdiction of the Baloch Colony police station and sought their custody for questioning.

The magistrate handed the suspects over to the police on physical remand till Aug 25.

The suspects had allegedly abducted Razzaq John in his car in Junejo Colony and demanded Rs2 million for his release, but a police party raided the suspects’ hideout and arrested them on Aug 20 and recovered the captive.

A case was registered under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of a sister of the captive.

Three extortion suspects

An anti-terrorism court remanded on Friday three suspects in police custody in an extortion case.

Amar Das, Mohammad Farhan and Bilal Yasir have been booked for allegedly demanding protection money from a shopkeeper in Saddar.

The police arrested the suspects on Thursday and produced them before ATC-III, which granted their physical remand for a week.
