Fracturing Pakistan

Published August 22, 2014

EXPLAINING the reasons for their agitation against the National Assembly and Prime Minister Sharif , PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that there were 148 seats of the Punjab in the National Assembly.

He said that the PTI held public meetings in four major cities in Punjab and since those were attended by a large number of people, they concluded that the people supported their campaign which is why they demand the prime minister’s resignation and dissolution of the National Assembly.

He ignored the fact that Pakistan has four federating units and not Punjab alone. Even if all of Punjab supports the PTI campaign, it would be unwise and disastrous for Pakistan’s existence to try to impose the PTI decision on other provinces as this will result in their alienation from Pakistan. The PTI should think and revisit this matter.
