QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai has summoned a session of the provincial assembly on Monday, it was announced here on Sunday night.

Earlier, the session was scheduled to begin on Aug 20 and the reason for convening it two days early was not mentioned in the notification.

However, sources said the decision had been taken in view of the political situation.

“The assembly is likely to adopt a joint resolution in support of the present political set-up against the backdrop of the demands of PTI chief Imran Khan and PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri for dissolution of all assemblies and new elections,” the sources told Dawn.

They said the Balochistan chief minister and his coalition partners had already opposed the demands and termed them unconstitutional and undemocratic.
