ISLAMABAD: The United States, the United Kingdom, some European countries and some countries from Asia-Pacific region have issued travel advisories to their citizens alerting them not to travel to Pakistan because of the prevailing security and political situation.

In addition, the government of these countries have also directed their diplomats to remain confined to their residences in Islamabad and not to move to any political event in the federal capital city due to serious security threats to such gatherings.

"The diplomats have also been directed to move to their respective consulate generals in Karachi if the security situation in Islamabad became volatile,' a diplomatic source told Dawn.

The development comes as Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf are holding rallies against the government in the country leading towards the federal capital city.
