MINGORA: Provincial chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Professor Mohammad Ibrahim Khan on Tuesday said that they would not support any attempt to harm the democratic system in the country.

Addressing a ceremony at Swat Press Club, which was held to distribute cash among the internally displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency, he said that imposition of martial law would be against the constitution and the country could no more afford such a situation.

“For sustainable democratic system in the country role of agencies in the political matters needs to end,” he said and added all the political parties should work for strengthening democracy.

To a question Professor Ibraheem said that Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri's agendas were different, adding that while Qadri didn’t take part in the last general elections, Imran Khan started its agitation after he alleged rigging in four constituencies during the last general elections.

The JI leader said that political parties should keep their differences aside and work for country’s uplift.

Replying another question the JI provincial chief said the government should end operation Zarb-i-Azb as soon so possible to allow return of the affected people to their home towns. Published in Dawn, Aug 13th, 2014
