Pakistani actors Sarwat Gilani and Fahad Mirza are ready to tie the knot on Independence Day.

Gilani, who was previously married to Omer Saleem, the brother of TV personality Ali Saleem, chooses to close the door on the past to begin a new chapter in her life.

"Fahad is my first love," Gilani told Dawn.

The couple met a decade ago, but had been out of touch for a long time.

"We were friends for three years, but were out of touch for the last seven years," said Gilani.

"A year back I was performing in a theatre play Dhaani that Fahad came to watch... and that is how we got back in touch again."

When asked why Mirza is the one for her, Gilani was quick to respond, "Because I always knew he was the one."

Gilani's family has also been very supportive Gilani says.

"He's a nice qabil bacha, so yes, the family has been very supportive."

The high profile wedding will be held in Karachi on August 14, among family and friends. Gilani promises she will return to work after a month-long break.

Wish them well.

She was married to Ali Saleem, then what happened between the two. How the doors were closed? The second love was abandoned after regaining the first one. They lost each other in this modern age and were out of contact? Very strange?

Why the dude is on cell phone on such an important occasion of his life?

UnshacklePakistan Aug 08, 2014 06:43pm

@weq Please grow up. The freedom of religion, culture, and actions means no body is going to force you to behave in a manner you don't deem fit. It also means others also have a choice to behave in a manner they deem fit, as long as they are not physically harming another.

A man and a women friendship can have nothing good come out of it.

This is rubbish.

What message are we give to our youth about love and marriage?

shahid Aug 08, 2014 09:47pm

well they are engaged and they can marry eachother or divorce non of our problem.

UnshacklePakistan Aug 08, 2014 11:41pm

@Morad786 The message we are giving is that if you love someone you can marry them. Please don't impose your cultural norms others. Don't place the job of teaching your kids about behavior on the shoulders of a newspaper. It's your job as a parent to teach your children what is appropriate and what isn't. In a free society just as you have a right or your wife or daughter to wear a hijab or a burka, so do others to not wear them. The ultimate freedom and nonviolence comes from you being able to follow what you believe in and others what they believe in.

Sameer Aug 12, 2014 11:02am

@Morad786 It is very difficult but have to keep the youth away from media, what have been presented in the media is not our culture.

zobia khan Aug 12, 2014 11:11pm

@A. Mirza Everyone has a first love. Sometimes things and other obligations get in the way. We end up with someone else, but you never forget your first love. Its all about being human.

zobia khan Aug 12, 2014 11:13pm

@A. Mirza There is nothing hypocritical. You don't always marry the one you love, and you don't always love the one you marry.

S Aug 13, 2014 09:27am

Geo aur jeenay do!. Live your life to its fullest, you only get it once.Just be sincere and honest to each other. Men and women are made for each other. There is nothing dirty about it. Be comfortable with yourselves.
