DHAKA: Sri Lanka’s acting assistant coach Ruwan Kalpage is set to become Bangladesh’s fielding coach as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed signing a deal with the Sri Lankan.

Kalpage, who is expected to be with the Sri Lankans until the end of their Pakistan series in August, however is yet to get the clearance from the Sri Lanka Cricket.

Piyal Wijetunge, Sri Lanka’s spin bowling coach, has also been signed up by the BCB for a similar role with the Tigers.

An aggressive all-rounder who bowled off-spinners, Kalpage appeared in 11 Tests and 86 One-day Internationals for Sri Lanka before retiring in 1999.

After he quit, he assisted Trevor Chappell as Sri Lanka’s fielding coach. From 2008 to 2010 he was the high performance head coach of Bangladesh’s National Cricket Academy.
