NOWSHERA: A woman along with her three minor daughters jumped into the Kabul River at Pir Sabaq here on Friday.

Relatives said Shabana Bbibi of Khawase Kaly jumped into the river along with her daughters, nine month old Muatera Khan, Madina Khan, 10, and Saleha, three, from the Pir Sabaq bridge. Her son, Qasim Khan, 4, who also accompanied his mother, ran away from the spot after seeing her mother jump into the river and raised alarm, asking the people to rescue his mother and sisters.

The Nowshera Kalan police confirmed the incident and said the local divers had been trying to fish out the bodies from the river. Later, divers from army and local administration also reached the spot and started search for the bodies.

They recovered the body of Saleha after hectic efforts before sunset, while search for the remaining bodies continued.

Police and local people said the woman was facing severe domestic problems and had strained relations with her husband. They said that before the incident, her husband, Noor Habib, severely thrashed the woman over a petty issue.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested a seven-member gang of car-lifters and recovered a Suzuki van from them.
