Lawmaker shot dead in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU: Somali gunmen shot dead a lawmaker in Mogadishu on Friday as he left prayers at mosque, police and witnesses said, the latest in a string of attacks and killings in the capital.

“Sheikh Adan Madeer was shot and killed in central Mogadishu by gunmen,” witness Abdisalan Mohamed said.

Madeer is the fifth Somali deputy to be killed since the start of the year.

Police confirmed the killing.
