LAHORE: National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) central and M-2, south zone, made transport owners to pay back 1,356 passengers total Rs202,712 overcharged from them ahead of Eidul Fitr.

According to a spokesman, on Sunday the special drive was launched on the orders of NH&MP IG Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema under the supervision of DIG Bashir Ahmed Memon through surprise checking.

The spokesman said the central zone returned an overly charged amount of Rs102,685 to 354 passengers and imposed Rs43,000 fine on violators under the supervision of SSP Muhammed Inkasar Khan.

M-2 South Zone police officers checked more than 1,300 vehicles and took action against 57 violators, making them to return Rs100,027 to 1,002 passengers.

A heavy fine was also imposed on the violators.

The passengers appreciated the NH&MP’s initiative. They were asked to lodge their complaints, if any, on Motorway Police helpline 130.
