Pillion riding banned for Eid in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh government on Sunday decided to impose a five-day ban on pillion riding in Karachi starting from from today Sunday, July 27 to ensure security on the occasion of Islamic festival of Eidul Fitr.

Sindh home department, in a notification issued today said that the ban on pillion riding will remain in effect till midnight August 1.

Provincial Home Secretary Niaz Abbasi said the ban would come into effect immediately.

Security agencies had asked the city administration to impose pillion riding ban to avert any untoward incident due security threats ahead of Eid.

There were reports of terror activity ahead of the holy festival, sources said. Senior citizens, journalists, women and personnel of law enforcement agencies will be exempted from the ban.

Security must be ensured by better law enforcement, not by banning the means of transportation for the poor. The rulers hide behind heightened security, and come up with absurd ideas like this for 'ensuring security' for the public. Will we ever get rid of these incompetent people that are ruling us?

Sir, the pillion riding should be stopped for ever. The terrorists are always 2 men riding a motor cycle. They kill the people and then run away. The government does not want to stop pillion riding. Because they have their own terrorists who are killing their enemies. You do not need a brain of Einstien to understand that. Saving few rupees is not as important than killing the persons.

The worst governed province. Having been 6 consecutive years in power and coming with a novel idea to deprive the people of theirs' easy mode of transport. Moreover, the transport facilities to the citizens are evident to all which present a pathetic picture and apathy of the government.
