KARACHI: Three suspected militants were shot dead in an `encounter’ in Manghopir area on Friday night, according to officials.

The law-enforcement agencies claimed that the deceased belonged to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, and explosive material and suicide jackets were seized from the scene of the clash.

SSP West Irfan Baloch said that police and Rangers conducted a raid in a hilly area in Manghopir near a prayer ground. As the suspects saw police and Rangers, they opened fire. In the retaliatory fire, three suspects were shot dead.

However, their identity could not be ascertained immediately.

This was the second major action against militants in Manghopir area in the recent past. Seven suspects belonging to the TTP were killed in a gunbattle with police and Rangers on June 20 in the area.
