There was no issue of Dawn on July 23, 1964 on account of the Eid Milad-un Nabi holiday. The following is an excerpt from the previous day’s paper.

ISTANBUL: The joint airline to be formed by Turkey, Iran and Pakistan is seen by their Heads of State now discussing plans at Dolmabache Palace here for economic and cultural association as a living symbol of co-operation among them.

The proposals for the joint airline were laid before President Ayub Khan, Shahinshah of Iran and Premier Ismet Inonu at their first summit meeting late last night [July 20] after a dinner given by the Turkish Government in honour of its Pakistani and Iranian guests.

The joint airline, which may be called Aviation Tupair or by some other name representing the three member states, will have an initial share capital of 15 million US dollars, and it is expected to merge most of the existing international services operated by Pakistani, Turkish and Iranian airlines. The joint airline is not likely to concern itself, however, with domestic air services in either of the member states. The services to China now operated by the Pakistan International Airlines and those to Israel by the Turkish Airlines will likewise be excluded from the new airline’s schedule.
