ISLAMABAD: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday said that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander of Miramshah, Umer was killed by security forces on the outskirts of Miramshah the previous night.
In a statement issued today, the ISPR stated that the civilian population has been evacuated from North Waziristan where the Zarb-i-Azb operation is targeting local and foreign militants.
"To make sure that there are no innocent civilians still left in the area, announcements are being made for any stranded tribals who may have stayed back for any reasons, to leave also," read the statement.
It also said that after the surrender of 19 terrorists, more terrorists may lay down arms.
Pakistan Air Force Jet aircraft destroyed six terrorist hideouts on the outskirts of Mirali, killing 11 militants, read the press release.
Attacks were also carried out on Saturday morning by artillery fire, tanks and heavy weapons outside Miramshah, killing seven terrorists.
One prominent Al Qaeda commander has been arrested while trying to flee the area, the ISPR said.
Initial interrogation reveal that the militant is an expert at Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and suicide belt manufacturing.
Meanwhile, three terrorists were also arrested by security forces while they were trying to cross the Indus River near Mianwali and all spots along the river were subsequently sealed to prevent escape, it added.

Alhamdolillah.. It seems the hunters are being hunted now. As always, Pakistan Army comes to the rescue. I will only request the army officials to make sure that absolutely all the exit spots from North Waziristan are manned by Army check posts. I read a story in DAWN a few days ago which stated that some tribesmen are using a unfrequented route to come out of N. Waziristan and there is a genuine fear that many terrorists might be exiting in the guise of IDPs.
Next step should be to erect barbed wires followed by mining of the border with Afghanistan. Setting up of checkposts every 5-7 kilometers at the border with at least 20 soldiers in each, should also be a good idea. Moreover, these checkposts should be supplied with double cabin pickups so that the soldiers from a post can immediately rush to aid of another checkpost if attacked.
I also propose that Pakistan army sets up a web site where Pakistanis from around the world can make donations for a variety of purposes including feeding and clothing the IDPs, or for helping the Pakistan Army fight the war against the terrorists. I will immediately donate a thousand dollars, which is my entire saving, to the cause.

@Aurang Lookig at the history of Pakistani media I dont think its a good idea to allow them anywhere near the area because of their irresponsible and spiced up reporting methods which can easily give away the position and tactics of the army. However they should be allowed to go to the IDP camps where they can highlight all the problems being faced by the IDPs so the people of Pakistan can come forward and help those people.

@Aurang Army High command - should allow journalist to witness - it will be more credible to the world. Also allow international journalist. Army can lay down few guidelines - have senior and seasoned - war correspondents . They will not reveal tactical plans or military secrets -- but such reporting will give credibility to the war on terror.

@Farooq I'm afraid the same holds good for other side - we have been fed lies about our wars with our neighbors, surrender of 1971 war, debacle of Kargil ..... both need to treat citizens as intelligent, patriotic and mature. Irresponsible journalism will weed itself out if we let more sunshine in!!
A limited access can be good start but barring them completely is like gagging them - don't you feel that way!

One can not deny that these jet and ground attacks are also killing few, if not many, innocent civilians. Only 11 terrorists in 6 hideouts? I am waiting for a big name such as Khorasani, Shahidullah Shahid, Ihsanullah Ihsan (of course Mulla Fazullulah is not in Pakistan) among the killed terrorists.

@Aurang ISPR is throwing out numbers without a single picture of captured or dead terrorists. Until there is verification, these are just numbers. Drones and helicopters have cameras. Use them.

This should not be a cause for celebration. It is a tragedy. Pakistan, by involving itself with the CIA and the Saudis, in 1979, created religion based terror groups. Instead of making doctors and engineers out of these young men we gave them guns and explosive to go kill and get killed.
Pakistani nation has failed in preventing their population from becoming terrorists or falling victim to these religious monsters, we created with Saudi money.
