KARACHI: Five people were injured in an explosion in Karachi on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Casualties were feared in the blast that took place in the city's North Nazimabad area near the Rangers headquarters.

Personnel from law enforcement agencies had surrounded the site of the blast and members of the bomb disposal squad were also dispatched to the location.

The explosion caused damage to the nearby shops.

Due to the intensity of the blast, the windows of the closely situated buildings also shattered.

The injured in the attack were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to initial investigation, the bomb blast was planted on a footpath.

Karachi, the country's financial capital, is currently undergoing a targeted operation against terrorists, target killers and other criminals elements and mafias active in the city.


Karachi situation discussed in Rangers meeting


A high-level meeting of the Rangers officials was held in Karachi today, during which a briefing on possible militant attacks was given by the Rangers’ Intelligence personnel.

Director General of the Sindh Rangers Maj-Gen Rizwan Akhtar headed the session which was also attended by DIG Special branch and DIG of the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

During the meeting, the intelligence officials gave a briefing regarding possible acts of terrorism in the city.

Aerial footages of various areas were also surveyed in the session.

The meeting moreover discussed the achievements of the ongoing Karachi operation.
