RAWALPINDI: The government of Punjab has managed to reduce the fares of intercity non-air conditioned buses and goods transporting vehicles between seven to ten per cent.

However, it has failed to bring down the fares of public vehicles plying between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

After the reduction in diesel prices, the Punjab transport authority reduced the fares of intercity non-air conditioned buses by ten percent, while the goods forwarding transporters voluntarily reduced their fares by seven percent.

Secretary regional transport authority Rawalpindi, Awais Manzoor Tarar, told Dawn that the fares of non-AC public transport vehicles have been reduced by 4 paisas per kilometre.

He said that the new fares will be applicable with immediate effect and a new fare-list had been issued. He added that new fares have been decided after consultation with various transport associations.

Regarding the fares of public transport between Rawalpindi and Islamabad, he said that the local transporters used petrol and could not reduce their fares as much as diesel powered transporters.
