The term of "ISI within the ISI" is a great term. It explains a lot to a common man like me. It certainly stretches our imagination. Who knows if there is an ISI within ISI within the ISI.

@Shahpur You are blinded. Turkey is no Pakistan. Turkey has increased its GDP 17 % per year for the last 17 years, which is unheard of. People are happy with the civilian government. There is transparency in the system. This happened after the current government killed or jailed all the Kamali generals. Generals in Pakistan are kings even after retirement although they deserve nothing.

I do not recall anyone in past who after being on receiving end and on wrong side of event, instead of getting sympathy, is being loathed and rubbished. This overall behavior of Pakistani nation in general cannot and should not be ignored and clearly shows with whom their collective support lies.

Hamid Mir is a very brave journalist.His father, Waris Mir was also a brave journalist and writer.He fought Zia ul Haq very bravely and never bent.

DG ISI is supposed to be the strongest man in the ISI not an "ISI within the ISI? His brother implicated him directly by name and Hamid Mir has backed his brother's earlier statement. Also, TTP's Shahidullah Shahid's first reaction after the incident was in favour of hamid Mir where he was praised as a brave journalist who was standing up to the establishment. So all this he saying now doesnt add up somehow.

Careless and irresponsible actions of network Geo and it's correspondent Hamid Mir have not only dented the progress of free media speech in a Country that strived this progress for decades but have also left themselves open to libel action from PEMRA and ISI itself. The third repercussion of these actions are on the foreign and domestic affairs. Hamid Mir and GEO have displayed no professionalism and integrity in the recent developments. Govt on the other hand is playing the devils advocate by appointing a judicial commission. A JC will have no oversight or investigatory power to come up with a solid conclusion. A police along with forensic investigation is essential for getting to the truth of these allegations. Hamid mir has contradicted himself by airing supposed threats that him and no one else knows about. Neither the Govt or any law enforcement agencies are aware of these threats beforehand. Hamid mir is tracking back from calling the Head of ISI the responsible party to 'ISI within ISI' being responsible. Only if he could hear himself as he sounds more and more like a conspiracy theorist without any substantial evidence aiming for cheap publicity. Govt inaction and failure of GEO to issue a full-on apology will open doors to another martial law. Men and women of the Armed forces do not belong to a foriegn corporation. They define Pakistan by it's very existence. They do not deserve to be treated in this despicable manner as such.

There been only a few power ambitious generals or senior officers because of who Pakistan suffered the evils of 4 Martial laws and fall of half the Country during the rule of an army dictatorship. The rest half of Pakistan has been surrendered by the last army dictator at the hands of terrorists and secessionists, religious militants, extortionists and deadly marauders of peace, humanity and the Nation so much so that I have read in newspapers that there may be not a single industrialists, business man and commercial people who are left without extortion notice 90% of whom do not report because of fear of live and security of them and family? Is this the Pakistan for which great Quaid-e-Azam, the founder members of Pakistan Movement and millions of Indian Muslims had given unprecedented sacrifices? Except a handful officers overwhelming majority of the generals, officers and 100 % of the soldiers are always the most honest and truly patriotic soldiers and sons of Pakistan and entire Nation has always loved, respected and supported them by heart and soul. When the ordinary citizens lodged their reports with allegation against two Muslim Khalifae Rashid and Heads of the Islamic Caliphate of the time both of them submitting to the superiority of the laws of land, presented themselves in front of the Court Qazi (Judge). Is any Muslim King, Ruler or general is superior than those great Khulfae Rashedoons? I never been a supporter of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto nor of PPP or of any religious or political party, but when after long Army Rule half of Pakistan was surrendered and about 90000 armed and security personnel handed over their weapons at the hands of Indian army, Bhutto had said in his first statement that, " the oppressed people of Pakistan have been humiliated so much and for so long by the mighty elements that now this collective humiliation of the oppressors and the oppressed equally, was but according to the laws of nature". These words of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto will keep on haunting me till memory is alive.

Civilian government is not competent enough to run this country. Look the credential of any federeal minister they are not worth their salt. They cannot talk intellectually yeah they can talk loosly against any one who reason. All the day night they advocate democracy. People want employment, security, electricity, gas low inflation and the list goes on.

ISI is a great institution. It has achieved remarkable feats in the past. It has successfully defeated KGB, and even today is at war with not one but many top of the line spy agencies of the world, which have formed their nexus in Afghanistan and are doing every possible efforts with unlimited amount of resources to defeat ISI. Even today, all the neutral experts and analysts of spy agencies rate ISI as the best in the world. However, there are certain sections in our society, which are wary of ISI involvement in country's politics. There is no denying the fact that ISI has been involved in such activities largely at the behest of army chiefs who ruled the country and used ISI as their instrument to manipulate country's political dynamics. Today, ISI is paying the price of this involvement. This great institution is now under attack by its very own people. Hamid Mir episode has brought this issue to the limelight. The way media group Hamid Mir belongs to mishandled the matter. There is no doubt about the fact that, ISI, in no way, should get itself engaged in local politics. They should strictly remain within their domain. They have served the country very well on international front and that's their real job. I believe that Army Chief who is thorough gentleman and a professional soldier will look into it and go through every possible detail to protect ISI from unnecessary criticism and if found any weakness in it, will take action accordingly. I would like to conclude my comments with my utmost desire to see this great institution of Pakistan, the ISI, free from all blames. I believe ISI will serve Pakistan effectively in future as well.

Fair and unbiased media is essential for democracy to thrive. People calling for restriction of media should realize they are calling for restriction against their own freedom. What if Mr. Mir was right? Any claim, true or false, must be investigated, else there is no point in having a democratic government.

I feel sorry for him but he is paranoid. If I go and see him, I will also ask him to leave for sometime. Would that make a messenger of ISI? I think his paranoia about ISI has been used by some other groups to target him. This has driven a wedge between Govt and Army. Was that the purpose of targeting Mir?

@Khurram Hamid Mir has done plenty to damage the country. I wonder why you cannot read between the lines of his reporting. Let events unfold we will know if he is telling the truth or otherwise. Why does he change statements on daily basis - please ponder on that and many other issues connected with the incident viz: Driver and the guard have still not recorded their statements. The car was washed and any forensic evidence was destroyed. On whose behest??? ISI ??? Eyewitness accounts state that their was hardly a few blood stains on the seats. Six bullets fired and no BLOOD. Give me a break !!!

I wish Hamid Mir a fast and complete recovery. He is a brave and truthful journalist. Some power centers in our country are not ready to tolerate truth about their unlawful deeds, and go to any extent to punish those who don't talk in their favor. We have to go a long way before our country becomes a civilized society where powerful people and institutes don't take law into their own hands and tolerate the difference of opinion.

I find it absurd that a person is attacked, almost losses his life for freedom of speech, and the reaction is to blame him and ask him for proof? It is no doubt that only the state or Taliban Would have the capacity to track and stage such opperation. It is the responsibility of the state to protect its citizens and find the assassins. It is time to hold ISI accountable and bring it under control of civilian govt, as exist in all mature democracies with stability. those who are pretending to be Pakistani patriots are tied to the army, or are paid to stir public opinion again media. We have seen the same happen against NGOs under Musharraf. We can respect them, but we have to hold the police, army and ISI accountable. No one can be above the constitution.
