RAWALPINDI: A squad of 52 wardens will join the city traffic police on Thursday to help regulate traffic during construction work of metro bus project.

The police have also sought help of 24 students from the Government Degree College Satellite Town to facilitate the commuters.

When contacted, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Mohammad Shoaib Khurram said that he had requested for 250 wardens to assist the existing force, but only 125 personnel were approved.

He said that since work on the project started, traffic on Murree Road was being regulated manually. And for that purpose, extra manpower is required.

The CTO believes that soon after the new batch of traffic wardens joins, most of the issues will be resolved.

In addition, four fork lifters and two cranes were also demanded but they have not yet been provided.

The CTO said that a group of 24 students, on Wednesday, also joined the city traffic police as part of the ‘road safety campaign’. The students were deployed in New Town circle and distributed pamphlets to the commuters and facilitated them.

During rush hours, the traffic volunteers will assist the wardens and control traffic at busy intersections.
