VEHARI: A man allegedly strangled his 16-year-old daughter over a marriage dispute at Chak 198-WB, some 50-km from here, on Sunday in Tibba Sultanpur police precincts.

Reports said labourer Bashir Ahmed and his wife, Parveen Bibi, developed differences over the marriage of their daughter, Humaira. Both wanted to marry off their daughter to their respective nephews.

On Saturday night, the couple exchanged words over the issue. Later, Bashir took his daughter in the room and strangled her by hanging her from the ceilng fan. His wife tried her utmost to rescue her daughter but in vain. Tibba Sultanpur police have registered a case against the suspect under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Station House Officer Shahid Abbas said police arrested the suspect who confessed to killing his daughter.

The body was handed over to the family after autopsy at Mailsi THQ Hospital.
