MUZAFFARABAD: Two persons fell into Jhelum River and drowned after their motorcycle hit a roadside parapet, police said on Friday.

Shahbaz and Attiqur Rehman were on their way to Chinari when the accident occurred near Naili bridge, some 36km south of here, along Jhelum Valley Road, police

official Mohammad Shahid told Dawn.

“While negotiating a curve, the speeding motorcycle hit a parapet with such a force that both riders were hurled in the air and then plunged into the river flowing hundreds of feet beneath the road,” he said.

Their bodies could not be fished out from the river till late in the evening, he said.
