TOBA TEK SINGH: The construction of Harappa-Kamalia bridge on the Ravi has been suspended for the last four months owing to alleged corruption.

Ex-MNA Riaz Fatyana had made efforts for approval of the Rs1.25 billion worth of project during the last PPP government.

The contractor had completed around 90 per cent of work and suddenly funds were suspended.

When contacted Riaz Fatyana told this correspondent that he had got approved the project from the federal government despite ‘heavy odds.’ “Now the bridge is almost complete and funds have been withheld as a result link roads and spurs along the bridge could not be completed.”

Fatyana said the bridge would cut short 40 kilometer distance between Kamalia and Sahiwal.

A few months ago, PML-N MNA Chaudhry Asadur Rehman from Kamalia had complained to the prime minister in a meeting that funds had been embezzled during execution of the bridge project and recommended to halt it.
