LAKKI MARWAT: Security forces on Monday shot dead a gunman, believed to be a militant, when he attacked the soldiers posted at one of the gates of district headquarters complex, Tajazai, here.

“The armed man fired at soldiers and policemen who were jointly guarding the main gate used by the security forces for entering the premises of an interment centre,” sources said.

The interment centre is situated at a short distance from the site of the incident. The district headquarters complex accommodates offices of government departments and a judicial complex.

The sources said that six to eight bullets were fired by the attacker, but luckily the security personnel remained unhurt. “In retaliatory firing the attacker was killed,” they said.

The sources said that security forces besieged the area and closed Lakki-Tajazai road for some time. Later, police reached the place and shifted the body of attacker to a local hospital,” they added.
