A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, was hearing the suo motu case today.

The District Police Officer informed the court that the clothes of the deceased victim and the suspect had been sent to a forensic laboratory for examination.

The victim's mother said no suspect had been arrested in the incident, adding that justice was yet to be seen.

Chief Justice Tassaduq assured her that justice would be served.

Earlier on March 15, a girl, who set herself ablaze in in Bet Mir Hazar area in protest against a police report which helped her alleged rapist obtain bail, had succumbed to her injuries.

A local court had granted bail to the main accused in the alleged rape, following which the girl went to the Bet Mir Hazar police station and lodged a protest with an investigation officer for favouring the accused in his report.

She had later doused her clothes with petrol and set herself on fire outside the police station in the presence of her younger brother. She succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the hospital.
