LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has warned the government that its workers will take to streets and demand fresh elections if it smelled partiality in the process of verification of thumb impressions of NA-118 voters.

At a news conference here on Monday, PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry said the voters’ thumb impression verification process in the National Assembly constituency would begin from Tuesday (today) on the directions of the Lahore High Court.

He said the PTI was smelling rat because the government had already removed chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

Mr Chaudhry warned the government against interfering in the verification process and urged it to let the ‘true results’ come out for the benefit of the democracy and the nation.

Predicting a ‘favourable’ out come of the verification process, the PTI Punjab president said the results would tell the nation that the rulers had reached the National Assembly by stealing public mandate.

He added the NA-118 PTI candidate Hamid Zaman had paid Rs1.8 million to the government for the verification exercise so that ‘facts’ could made public. He said the thumb verification process would complete within a couple of days.

Reiterating Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan’s statement, Mr Chaudhry said the PTI had accepted May 11 general election results but did not accept the ‘rigging’.

He said Mr Khan’s statement with regard to 35 ‘punctures’ was based on facts because election tribunals were declaring various poll results null and void.

Mr Chaudhry also referred to a report of the Fair and Free Election Network (Fafen), wherein it questioned results in various constituencies.

Hamid Zaman claimed the PTI was winning the NA-118 election till 11pm on May 11 but the results were changed afterwards.
