PA secretary suspended after sons thrash traffic warden

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly secretary Rai Nawaz was sent on a one-month leave after his sons thrashed a traffic warden for issuing them a ticket for road violation.

Rai Nawaz was initially removed from his post and made an officer on special duty (OSD) by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif but later Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal sent the official on one-month leave following an inquiry conducted on the speaker's behalf.

According to police, the two brothers, both sons of PA secretary Rai Nawaz, allegedly tortured the warden when he fined them a day earlier in Lahore.

Both the accused, Rai Mumtaz and Rai Najam, were arrested following the scuffle and were presented before a local court today which released them on bail against sureties of Rs 50,000 each.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) filed an adjournment motion in the provincial assembly against the chief minister's move.

The PTI leader was of the view that the chief minister was not authorised to remove the Punjab Assembly secretary and questioned about what kind of justice was being dispensed where a father had to bear the punishment for the deeds of his sons.

Last month, a similar incident took place when Pakistan cricket star Umar Akmal entered into an altercation with a traffic warden in the same city.

This is the punishment given to one of the Sahaba of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him) by Hazrat Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) in time of his Khilafat. The sons acted on the merit that their father is PA Secretary, I doubt if they would do the same without their father's post in the government office. Well Done I hope they will do the same with higher ranking officials of the government office.,

jis ki lathi uss ki bhains,what proof do police/judicial need more? it is clearly evident in video,these kids of waderas(recent incident in sindh from Jatoi&Talpur family),jagirdar,and big shot they think and it is (unfortunately) that they are untouchable and impune to any law and thats why common masses hate them and we have social injustice**and as a result religious extremist organisation**they are fully exploiting for their own agenda that they are the one who can end people misery as others have failed.

The two brats of the Secretary, who actually committed the crime, should be dispensed exemplary punishment to stop this ugly menace.in our culture. We should also look at using flogging in public in such cases. There is no point in going after the father. If at all, the mother and father should be reprimanded for instilling such bad upbringing into these spoiled brats. Wake up Pakistan, we need proper justice here. Love from Toronto, Canada

Attacking a police officer should be a non bailable offence. Giving the police officers due respect is important for a society to function. If this incident had happened in any western country, the police force of that area would have converged on area within minutes. However, the system of our police is so bad that ironically the police can't even protect themselves.

Punjab Government should fight for the state employees. What a shame against the Punjab Government to see the employee beaten by the spoiled brat. Did u see the warden,s uniform was trashed by this stupid guy and how scared the police officer is?. He tore the clothes of the Chief Minister of Punjab and slapped on his Governance. Lets make the laws equal for all and apply on all. Also let the justice system have an opportunity to prove that you can serve the justice and lets prove u can serve the people of Pakistan who put u there.

They deserve severe punishment for grievouse bodly harm to policeman who are public servants and were just doing his duty, people like them have no respect for law. If this punishment is not awarded there could be very bad consequences.

Its not like these sort of things never happened before but two things have changed and for the better I suppose. One; Public pressure/opinion and a vibrant media tends to force the hands our elites (in this case khadime aala whose own daughter thrased a poor guy not so long ago and secondly, the mobil camera as a democratic equalizer! (No wonder why the govt doesnt lift the ban on youtube!)

@Paladin: Police in Pakistan deserves more than this. No matter who thrashes them, I feel very happy when police is dishonored. I am not sure if you are a former Pakistani policemen, but if you were you would know how police treats people with no political power, they are the firouns of the time.

Much has been said about if it was a country other than Pakistan .... just to keep all informed, people on this side of world are also humans and commit similar crime as people do in Pakistan though its not that often. This is not a justification rather a reminder.

Of course there are two opinions: 1. Father should not be punished because he is a different individual. 2. Kids did this because of their father's power. But for father's power kids should have not done it. Given law and order situation, CM did the right thing. Put your hand on the power base and they will correct themselves.

@Asaf Maruf: Sometimes even good parents end up with bad children. Parents are not the only influence on their children as they are growing up. Most of us know families where out of say 5 children, there is one bad one among the 4 good ones, even though they were raised exactly the same way by their parents. Even if this father had poor parenting skills, that is not a crime.

The fathers position should be demoted and the spoiled sons should have to apoligise in public and should get some real jail time as per law .If we dont repect the law then no one will .Those brats had the whole gang there beating the poor cop .In an other country the cop would have shot them and walked away
