LAHORE: Except for Karakorum Express, commuters opting to travel in AC sleeper, business and economy classes of all trains will continue to avail concession on fares for another three months.

Minimum fare of the branch line trains would also be Rs20 per passenger per journey, said a railway spokesperson on Thursday.

A decision to reduce rail fares from 17pc to 57pc with effect from Oct 1 last year, initially for three months after the ‘fare rationalisation’ of rail cars and Jaffar Express tickets, attracted more passengers and increased revenue.

The spokesperson said in passenger sector Pakistan Railways earned Rs10.93 billion from July 1, 2013, to March 20, 2014, which was Rs1.21 billion more than the budgetary targets for the ongoing fiscal.

The overall earnings of the PR in the same period were Rs16.95 billion which had been Rs1.85 billion more than the budgetary targets for the current financial year.
