Malala, Aitezaz among others lavished with Civil awards

ISLAMABAD: As many as 105 notables from across Pakistan, including some from abroad, were conferred the Pakistani Civil Award on Sunday in recognition of the services they rendered in their respective fields for the development of the country.

According to a press release, the President had approved 105 Pakistan Civil Awards on 14th August, 2013 and 10 were approved as special cases after the date.

President Mamnoon Hussain conferred the National Awards (Civil) on 39 individuals, including five foreigners, at the investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The Governor Punjab on behalf of President decorated 20 recipients of National Awards (Civil), at a similar ceremony held at the Governor's House in Lahore.

Twelve recipients of National Awards (Civil) were conferred by the Governor Sindh while the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa awarded nine recipients.

Five nominated individuals received their National Awards (Civil) from the Governor Balochistan in Quetta.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee would decorate 25 recipients of National Awards (Civil), on 24th March at JS HQ.

Three foreign nationals, including a Pakistani expatriate, will be awarded by the Heads of Pakistan Missions located in the countries of respected recipients of awards on March 23 or later.

Among those who were awarded at Aiwan-i-Sadr today include Mr Ghulam Nabi for his contribution in the field of Physics. He was conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz.

Meanwhile, renowned poet Mr Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi was recognized for his services to Literature with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz.

Other notables include late Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Zahra Shahid Hussain, who was posthumously awarded the Tamgha-i-Shuja’at for gallantry.

Teenage activist Malala Yousafzai and slain Pakistani student Aitezaz Hassan were also awarded the Sitara-i-Shuja’at for gallantry.

Pakistan's cricket team captain Misbahul Haq was recognized with the President’s Award for Pride of Performance for his services to sport.

Young television reporter Wali Khan Babar, who was shot dead on Jan 13, 2011 in Karachi, was posthumously awarded the President’s Award for Pride of Performance by Governor Balochistan.

“This award is not a replacement for my martyr brother, but I am happy that his services have been recognised,” Wali's brother Murtaza Khan Babar told AFP.

Malala rendered services for the development of Pakistan.. ohh means i was wrong, the soldiers who lost their lives fighting against enemies, the student Iftakhar who lost his life to save other, Arfa karim,Dr afia, Dr Qadir who contributed in nuc power, all were just doing nothing for country and this drama queen contributed ,who don't even come back to country were she belong.its good ,media makes person hero from zero.. Mr danish harder. I must say shame on you for making such comment.... when someone joins military they know they are one bullet away from martyrdom. But when a little girls leaves for school she doesn't anticipate a bullet but wait not one bullet but multiple bullets would penetrate her fragile innocent body and not just her but innocent girls sitting next to her. Please think before making such hideous and insensitive comments.

Enough of this western agent Malala and his family. tired and sick of media by highlighting her all the time. Is she the only girl who suffered with TTp attack or brutality of the society in general why not media active enough to raise and bring and highlight those innocent sufferers and victims as well. I have observed selection of awards (culture, literature, arts etc) is generally not based on merit. At least that is the case in KP traditionally. It is decided in secretary's offices by those who have access to power corridors and by sham exercises. Many unsung heroes who deserve recognition are ignored because they do not have government or political patronage. Sad but true

I m so proud of this list. And finally Misbah! Good one. I see a lot of negativity in comments section here. We should turn the corner and start celebrating our real heroes.

@qaisar: Dear Mr. Qaisar, Assalam Alaykum, By heart and soul, I stand by all means to support little girls attending schools or prefer to take the bullet fire on them at my chest. However, how come you proof that Malala received multiple bullets? See other comments as well, truth is bitter neither insensitive nor hideous.... Cheers!

I don't think the Pakistani government invest in Swat valley full stop. I went to a girls school in Kashmir in the late 70s, I don't know of many regions in Pakistan unless very poor, that don't send girls to school. Also, girls get married off at 12 years old in Swat valley, like the recent case of the young women subjected to an acid attack by her husband and mother in law, who died. The police did not prosecute the family despite mobile phone evidence. The truth of the matter is, the taliban exist in Swat valley because the Pakistani government has never adequately invested in education, social reform and justice for women in that region. Don't get me wrong, I respect Malala Yusuf, but the Swat Valley isn't necessarily a reflection on the rest of Pakistan- maybe the Pakistani government should wake up, and bring Swat in the 21st century and stop abandoning it.

I understand the frustration of Pakistanis over U.S. involvement that so ominously "hovers" over Pakistan. But Malala was not the daughter or sister of any of these commentators who are quick to exploit her for their belief in conspiracy theory (just as the west was quick to exploit her for their propaganda). Malala represents the struggle of young girls in a region which still reckons girls as not worthy of receiving education and seeking careers and opportunities.

@Danish Haider: Dear Danish, how you can prove that she "Malala" wasn't targeted and shot by Taliban. What you can give prove is to give fake pictures and stories developed by Taliban Sympathizers and Jamait -i- Islami supporters. those pictures shared on facebook were develop by Taliban Sympathizers using basic software called Windows Paint. You just need to watch her "pre and post shot videos; where you can notice that how bullet had made changes in left side of face, particularly her jaw while she speaks. i think you are victim of conspiracies theories, particularity which were developed by Taliban and Jamait-i-Islamai supports around Malala; you need to grow up and accepts the reality out of conspiracies box. I wish her, if she wins "Nobel Peace Prize" this year. best. :-)

Awards should go to CNN, FOX, BBC etc for glorifying and making the innocent girl as a political tool - attack of Taliban innocents is clearly wrong. Taliban has attacked many such innocent people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and even in India too & others. There are many people in Pakistan sacrificed for the cause of peace and prosperity of Pakistan but they have not been recognised due to the simple fact that Pakistan is under the influence of dollar donation from rich countries. Money is important but democratic morals are equally important to spread democracy and equality. I am not getting into political forum to justify what Malala's tributes - She is obviously a good innocent girl like many of her friends who suffered during that horrible attack.

@Pakistani : She stood up to barbarians, who were against women's education; how many in Pakistan have had the courage to do so? on the other hand there are so many in Pakistan who admire the Taliban as long as they do not kill certain segments of the population within Pakistan.

The comments here reflect the typical half-brained Pakistani mentality - if the west has recognized Malala's courage, then they should hate her. These are the beyghairats who have provided support to the taliban and other jahils as they have burnt schools and killed innocent people over the past several eyars. I am glad that the elected government does not suffer from the same mental limitiations as the comment-makers here.

2 Names are missing? 1) Bilawal Bhutto Zardar - For organizing a very well Sindh Festival/Culutral Show at Mohinjodaro with full of flash lights, music and dance and wasting tax payers money and destroying our historical place, when next to this festival place, people of Pakistan died with hunger under PPP bad governed government. 2) Hamza Shahbaz Shariff - For making so many world records and arranging Youth festival in Punjab with full flash lgihts, music and dance wasting tax payers money and result ZERO.
