QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has said that no one, including the opposition members, will be discriminated against while allocating development schemes. The opposition, he added, could propose schemes in the Public Sector Development Programme but final decision would be taken by the government.

Responding to issues raised by the opposition members on points of orders in the assembly session on Monday, the chief minister said some of the projects suggested by them would not be ignored.

Dr Malik said his government would not compromise on the rights of the province and asked members belonging to the Lasbela district not to oppose the Gadani power project which ultimately would benefit the nation.

He directed departmental secretaries to submit replies to questions asked by lawmakers otherwise disciplinary action would be initiated against them, adding that legislature was the supreme body and officials must respect its members.

Prince Ahmed Ali said Gadani power project would not benefit Balochistan as electricity would be produced from coal that would affect human lives and pollute the environment.

Speaking on points of orders, opposition members Maulana Wasey, Zamarak Khan Achakzai and Sardar Abdur Rehman Khetran claimed that opposition members had been ignored in award of development projects.

They regretted that unelected persons had been allowed to propose schemes in their constituencies.

The session was adjourned to Thursday.
