RAWALPINDI: Different organisations in the garrison city on Saturday arranged functions to highlight the importance of Women’s Day and create awareness of the rights of women.

Punjab Social Welfare department arranged a function at Punjab Industrial Home known as Sanatzar at Shamsabad.

In the institution, the women from low income group had been imparted training in 100 different vocations so they can earn money for themselves and their families.

Addressing on the occasion, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb said that there was a dire need to create awareness of the rights of women.

“The Sanatzar institution of the provincial government is playing its role in making women financially empower so they can work and don’t rely on men,” she said.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) in collaboration with “Sukhanwar” arranged a mehfil-e-mushaira for women in connection with the day.

MNA Tahira Aurangzeb was chief guest on the occasion. Renowned poets Farkhanda Shamim and Farheen Chaudhry were guests of honor and Javeria Ambreen anchored the mehfil-e-mushaira.

The poets from Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Ismat Sultan, Jia Qureshi, Farheen Ch, Farah Deeba, Noshaba Adnan, Saima Batool, Javeria Ambreen, Nida Rizvi, Nikhat Seema, Riffat Waheed, Farzana Jannan and Rubina Shad, recited their poetry highlighting the issues of women.

Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) arranged a special lecture by retired Justice Nasira Iqbal in which she said in the past a small number of women were allowed for higher education but now the trend has changed.

“Women should know their rights and must practice them in order to progress,” she urged.

FJWU Campus Radio Voice of Women (VoW) also arranged live transmission dedicated to the courageous women who made significant contribution for the development of society and for their own betterment.

They also took live phone calls of leading women media persons.
