SUKKUR: To settle karo-kari disputes, two separate Jirgas were held in Taluka Tangwani in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Tuesday.

According to reports, the first Jirga was convened in the village of Gajrani by Sher Ahmed Bajkani to settle a dispute between the Gajrani and Jafferi communities.

After hearing both sides, the Jirga convicted one Saddam Jafferi of being karo and fined him Rs6,00,000 which is payable to Gohram Gajrani.The two sides accepted the verdict and the Saddam Jafferi group paid Rs50,000 on the spot to Gohram and promised to pay the remaining amount in instalments within three months, which was agreed by the Gohram Gajrani group.

The second Jirga was held in Madressa Muhalla, Tangwani, to settle the karo-kari dispute between the Bakhrani and Malik communities.

Presided over by former Tangwani Taluka Nazim Mir Ashraf Ali Bijarani, the Jirga heard the statements of the Shabbir Bakhrani group and Malik Nizamuddin group. While fixing responsibility on Malik Nizamuddin, the jirga imposed a fine of Rs460,000.

The Nizamuddin Malik group paid Rs50,000 on the spot to the Shabbir Bakhrani group and promised to pay the remaining amount in three instalments within three months.

Earlier, two girls were killed on the pretext of karo-kari in the Qasim Mahar village of Shikarpur on Monday night, according to an FIR registered at the Jahan Khan police station.
