LAHORE: A judicial magistrate of Model Town Courts on Thursday issued bailable warrant of cricketer Umar Akmal in the case relating to bashing of a traffic warden early this month.

Gulberg police had registered the FIR against Umar on charges of beating warden Zeeshan after he fined the player for over-speeding. The warden claimed that Umar became violent when a challan was issued in his name for the offence and manhandled him and tore his uniform.

The investigating officer had already submitted the challan of the case wherein he had declared Umar as guilty. The cricketer was ordered to appear in court on Thursday but he could not turn up as he is currently touring Bangladesh with the national cricket team for the ongoing Asia Cup.

The magistrate then issued bailable warrants against him for March 11.

It provides yet more proof that the undergirding logic of public authority in Pakistan is legal and extra-legal coercion rather than legitimised consent.
