Arrest warrant issued for Umar Akmal

LAHORE: A local sessions court on Thursday issued the arrest warrant for Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal for violating traffic rules and scuffling with a traffic warden, DawnNews reported.

Also today, the court ordered that following his arrest, Akmal be produced before it on March 11.

The court had summoned Akmal over the dispute with the traffic warden.

Currently, Akmal is in Bangladesh as part of the team playing in the Asia Cup tournament.

Earlier on Feb 1, Umar was arrested after police said he did not stop at a traffic signal in Lahore’s Firdous market area and later brawled with a traffic warden. He was detained the same day and released a day later on a bail order issued by a local court against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

Umar has denied the charges, claiming he had been assaulted by the traffic warden first.

Timing is impeccable! When a hero is serving Pakistan at Asia Cup, his warrant is issued. Why the warrant was not issued when he was in Pakistan!

This is ridiculous. Why the warrant is issued now. It is not a traffic violation he is being sought for now, it is for the assualt. In assault cases if you have the culprit you arrest them on the spot which was the case of Umar. If the culprit is at large then yeah you will arrest them when you can. Now it seems more of a personal vendetta. However Umar Akmal was in the wrong and should have been arrested then and there.

Umar Akmal is corrupt. He fakes injuries and is extremely selfish. Pakistanis tend to turn a blind eye to their fellow citizen's in power and hence the deteriorating situation in Pakistan. Like what is Salman Butt doing on TV? Does anyone object to this lying, cheating, conman?

To be national sportsman is a unique and privileged position but the dark side is that hero must have more respect towards national servants who stand on road side in chilling winter and scorching hot weather to make our lives easier and better. Hero doesn't mean that he/she becomes above law. Like wise other leaders and heroes must also be brought to justice like Umar Akmal. Jamshaid Dasti has done a terrific job yesterday by unveiling parliamentarians. They are elected representatives and must not be allowed to do nonsense in the name of personal life and privacy. No MP and govt official who are enjoying at the cost of tax payers money be treated as privileged rather should be treated as public commodity and must not be hidden behind private and personal life.

@Alex: He was out on bail, he didn't present at the court after that, for which he has to face the consequences and because of that court had to issue his arrest warrant.

@Khalid: You mean national servants who terrorise the masses by demanding bribes from them, i was coming out of Lahoore and was pulled over by the police our driver had all the papers but said he would still have to warm the palm of the officer, so i got out and scared the crap out of the officer by speaking ENGLISH ONLY he could not let us go quick enough...these so called servants are not there to make the traffic flow better they are just there to collect bribes and harass the public.

@Ryzwan: I think law should be equal for all but unfortunately that is not the case in Pakistan. There is not enough space in any news paper to give the names of all who have abused the Pakistani law/s and no real action has been taken against them!

Apparently it seem to be a law enforcement effort by the traffic warden & from our judicial system. however, if u stay put for a while and review the whole situation and the peoples who have witnessed the scene are to the point that mr umer akmal did,nt want that scuffle to be turned up and just wanted to end up the issue with an apologistic way yet why would warden missed a chance to prove his efficiency. Law is equal for every one , but the national heroes does does require some grace and respect from the society.
